Yarn Buddy is a project tracking app for knitters and crocheters on iOS and macOS. It combines row counters, pattern management, yarn stash tracking, and project organization in a clean, themeable interface.

Download Yarn Buddy from the App Store. The app is free with optional in-app purchases. Create a project to get started. You can work with or without a pattern.

Each project page includes:

  • Pattern name and designer
  • Yarn selection (linked to your stash)
  • Hook or needle size
  • Gauge information
  • Start and due dates
  • Photos
  • Notes and tags
  • Category labels for easy sorting

Tags and categories help you organize projects by type, recipient, season, or any system you prefer.

Add customizable counters to any project. Have multiple counters per project for tracking rows, pattern repeats, and sections. The counter is also available on Apple Watch.

Import pattern PDFs into the app and use adjustable highlight markers to keep your place.

The reading tools include:

  • Movable line highlighters
  • Zoom support
  • Dark mode for low-light crafting

Log your yarn collection with details including:

  • Brand and colorway
  • Fiber type and weight
  • Quantity and yardage
  • Purchase location
  • Care instructions
  • Gauge information

Yarn Buddy can scan barcodes to auto-fill yarn details when the barcode is recognized. Sort and search your stash by name, colorway, weight, and other fields.

Yarn Buddy includes calculators for yarn substitution and unit conversion (metric to imperial). These help you adapt patterns to the yarn you have on hand.

Choose between light and dark mode, or let the system decide based on your device settings.

  • Use barcode scanning. When adding new yarn, try the barcode scanner first, as it saves time.
  • Set due dates. Get reminders for gifts or deadlines (Pro feature).
  • Use tags. Filter projects by type, difficulty, or any system that works for you.
  • Use the Apple Watch counter. Count rows on your wrist while your phone stays in your bag.
  • Use PDF markers. The adjustable highlight line helps prevent losing your place.
